Frequently asked questions
A giclée is a printed reproduction of an artwork. It is a French word, pronounced zhee·klay.
To make a giclée, first a high-resolution digital photograph is taken of the artwork. Then the photo is color-corrected and samples (called proofs) are printed. Once the proof is approved by the artist, the giclées can be printed.
Check the product description for the frame size you will need. Some prints have multiple size options which are also listed in the description. Please note that all of the prints are matted, so the frame size is larger than the size of the print itself. For instance, an 11" x 14" print is matted to fit a 16" x 20" frame. Since your print already comes matted, you only need to purchase an empty frame. Most of the prints I sell are designed to fit standard-sized frames, such as 11" x 14," 16" x 20," and 20" x 24."
Try choosing a color in the artwork for the frame. For example, if you are framing a charcoal drawing, try different shades of gray. You can also try other neutral colors. Light wood frames look good with more subtle values. White frames are often a good option if you want the art to really stand out. Black frames can work if there are some really dark values in the artwork itself. A simple frame profile is often best suited to put the emphasis on the subtleties in the artwork. It is also good to consider where the art will hang so you can choose something that looks good with both the artwork and the surrounding home décor.
